And The Ring Goes To...The New York Mets?

With newly acquired Johan Santana, the Mets have arguably the best pitching rotation in the National League. Pedro Martinez and Orlando Hernandez, both very skilled veterans, and John Maine and Oliver Perez, two very young,talented players, help the cause. Their AL lineup, potentially being:

Luis Castillo

David Wright

Carlos Beltran

Carlos Delgado

Moises Alou

Ryan Church

Brian Schneider

The Pitcher

That is a lineup all pichers fear. So what is standing in the Mets way of a World Series Title? Either nerve or nothing. They have the talent, and if they have the nerve, they will go all the way. They are the best the NL East, and most likely the best in the NL. They just need to watch and see if the Phillies were lucky last year or if they're sprouting talent, and they need to watch the the whole of the NL West, with the exception of the SF Giants. If they do that, the Mets will be the 2008 World Champions.

Relief For The Bullpen

Who is to blame for the Mets downfall last season? Well, a part of the blame can go to the bullpen. Pitching is a huge factor for any team to win, and the Mets just didn't have it. But now that the the Mets have acquired Johan Santana, there will be a much needed relief. Santana is a total inning-eater, and about every 5 days, the bullpen will have more rest than they would if Traitor Glavine was pitching. There is some questioning on whether the Mets wouldn't have collapsed if they didn't pitch so much, and in my opinion, the answer is yes. I play on a team with barely any pitchers, and when they got tired, they didn't pitch as good as they could've. That's what happened to the Mets. We all know that Pedro Feliciano, Scott Schowenweis, Jorge Sosa, and the rest of the bullpen have very good talent, but having pitchers like rookie Philip Humber and Mike Pelfrey pitching, they couldn't get any good resting time. Well, we'll see what the Mets fate is soon enough. Hopefully, their fate will bring them the club's 3rd ring.

The Bat Of Santana

Now that Johan Santana has moved to the National League, he will need a bat and helmet of his very own. According to Willie Randolph,"He can swing the bat a little." Santana has had 31 career at-bats, with a result of a .258 batting average. Last June against the Mets, Santana hit a double, and in his next game in Miami he got a triple. Johan could be the next of the Mets hitting pitchers.

Shea Good-Bye

As we all know, our beloved Shea Stadium will no longer be the home of the Mets. On July 16th, there will be a concert held at Shea Stadium called "The Last Play At Shea". It has been confirmed that Billy Joel is going to play at said concert. This makes him the first person to play at all four of NYCs major sport venues.

The Santana Era

Today, the Mets held a press conference to introduce their newest and most valuable player by the name Johan Santana. They gave Santana his new Mets jersey, which he said will take some getting used to, and had him say a few words. Santana is very happy to be pitching in Flushing. He will be doing the best he can in the seven years to come. To some, today was Super Wednesday. It was the unofficial start of baseball.
